Our Beginning

Creche, which sounds like “fresh,” is a French word for crib. We began in Omaha over 120 years ago as a home for orphaned children. Then in 1970, the Creche Home for Children transitioned to a daily child care facility. As a non-profit organization we have a Board of Directors to offer guidance and direction. Our current center is licensed by the state of Nebraska through Health and Human Services.

Our classrooms are divided by age groups: infants, toddlers, twos, threes, fours, fives, and school age children. The child-to-teacher ratios are determined by the size of the group in each classroom, not by the entire center. Teachers are trained to meet each child’s individual needs in a small group setting. The daily schedule includes opportunities to learn social skills, problem solving skills, and movement/physical skills through play and structured activities.

Open Door Policy

Our center has a secured front entrance, but we welcome families to drop by any time to visit or volunteer. Families are important to the success of their child’s learning and healthy development. We want to partner with you through daily communication and monthly newsletters or Parent Partner meetings. Overall, we look forward to getting to know you and your child!
